Varsity Boys Soccer Advance to District Semi-Finals.

At home at Fitzgerald Spartan Stadium Wednesday evening, the Boys Varsity soccer team opened the MHSAA Soccer Playoffs with a 2 – 1 win, beating the Phoenix of Detroit Renaissance. Keeping the Phoenix offense under control & frustrated for the first half was the outstanding team defense of Mohammed Kibria, Marwan Enan, Stephen May and Abdou Sall and the stellar goal keeping of Rahib Chowdhury. Renaissance scored a late 1st half goal, to pull even with the Spartans at halftime 1 – 1. The Spartans scored a first-half goal by Sophomore, Marven Kola. In the second half, the Spartans worked to hold back the offensive challenges of the Phoenix. The Varsity boys kept the pressure on through-out the second-half. Marven Kola was fouled in the box, which resulted in a penalty-kick. Mohammed Kadir stepped to the penalty line and buried the shot into the back of the net for a 2 – 1 lead.

The Spartan Varsity team is on the road next Monday, October 17th, for an MHSAA District semi-final game, against the Norseman of Grosse Pointe, kick-off for this match-up will be 7:00 pm.
Varsity Boys Soccer Settles for tie vs 1st Place Rockets.

The Boys Varsity soccer team played a re-match against the Rockets of New Haven, in an exciting MAC Silver Division game. The Spartans scored the 1st two goals of the match in the first half, for a 2- 0 lead. Tahmid Chowdhury and Mohammed Kadir scored their first goals of the season. The Rockets went against the pressure defense of Abdou Sall, Mohammed Hussain, Tahmid Chowdhury and Mohammed Kadir. The Spartan mid-fielders, Mohammed Kibria, Farhat Khan, Rahib Chowdhury and Marwan Enan, combined to dictate the offensive push against New Haven. Final score 2 – 2.
Spartan Player of the Match –Goal Keeper Zack Neal was solid against the Rockets, making 9 saves.
The Spartans play 3 games this Saturday, September 24th. Fitzgerald is hosting the Spartan Tournament beginning at 8 am. The Varsity boys kick off the tournament matched up against the Cardinals of Melvindale. Teams in the tournament include Austin Catholic, Melvindale, Cristo Rey, Warren Woods Tower, Centerline, Cesar Chavez & Waterford Kettering.

In their first match this week, the Boys Varsity soccer team beat the Hazel Park Vikings 6 – 0. Evening their record in the MAC silver division at 1-1. Marwan Enan scored two goals. Mohammed Hussain, Kevin Ramos, Marvin Kola and Abdou Sall finihed off the scoring for the Spartans. Mid-fielders, Mohammed Kibria, Mohammed Kadir and Fahmid Chowdhury, kept pressure on the Vikings players, collecting turn-overs and pushing the ball to the Spartan forwards. Stephen May, Mohammed Hussain, Farhat Khan, and Abou Sall lead the defense, locking down the Vikings offense. Tending the Spartans goal was Rahib Chowdhury.
